2025 AFCON Qualifiers: Togo FA rejects Ghana’s request to play Sudan in Lome

Togolese Football Association has rejected Ghana’s request to play their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Sudan at Stade de Kégué in Lome.

This comes after the Confederation of African Football (CAF), withdrew the license of various stadia in the country from hosting international football matches.

According to CAF, the Baba Yara Stadium facility in Kumasi, which has been home to the Black Stars in recent times, failed to meet certain international standards required for matches, hence had to be shut down for maintenance.

Accra Sports Stadium and Cape Coast Stadium which hasn’t hosted the Black Stars for over a year also failed to  make the cut as all three stadia have been closed for renovation.

There are also discussions about possibly hosting the game in neighbouring Ivory Coast following the support Ghana garnered during the 2024 AFCON earlier this year.

The Black Stars whose upcoming match against Sudan is scheduled to take place on October 11, have just one point from their two opening games after they losing 1-0 to Angola in Kumasi and playing out a draw 1-1 with Niger.

Ghana currently sit third in Group F, two points behind second-place Sudan and five behind Angola’s Palancas Negras, who won their opening two matches.
