A Hilarious Scene in Land of the Lost Was Totally Improvisational

I loved “Land of the Lost”. It was a zany spoof of its source material, and with a comedic quartet that included Will Ferrell, Danny McBride, Jorma Taccone, and Anna Friel, it was sure to deliver loads of yuks as they fled Sleestaks and giant prehistoric beasts. Although it doesn’t make much sense, which is kind of the point, it provides an excuse to subvert a corny childhood favorite with silly, inappropriate gags that skirts the edge of an R-rating. The film didn’t do very well at the box office, grossing $69 million during the summer of 2009. However, in retrospect, it didn’t deserve the failure it experienced. One of the funniest scenes was the one involving Rick, Will, and Chaka feasting on giant crab legs – all of which, unsurprisingly, was improvised. The performance of the actors and the improvised nature of the scene makes it hysterically funny. It would be great to see more of the magic in “Land of the Lost”.
