Super Eagles Set to Face Libya in Absence of Victor Osimhen

Super Eagles interim manager Augustine Eguavoen has expressed his confidence in the team being able to step up in the absence of Victor Osimhen as they prepare to face Libya in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Galatasaray forward was not included in the squad that will face the Mediterranean Knights on Friday and next Tuesday due to injury.

It has raised questions on how his absence will be felt, owing to how he was influential in last month’s qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda.

Eguavoen however believes in other players that can play the Napoli loanee’s role.

“It’s collective effort, it’s a team sport, it’s not an individual sport,” the ex-international told NFF TV.

“We are in touch and he can understand him, he can understand us.

“It’s a huge miss. We all know how important and impactful Osimhen can be but we have other players that can step into his shoe.

“He’s not here physically but I’m sure 100% sure he is here spiritually with us.”

In Osimhen’s absence, the likes of Victor Boniface, Ademola Lookman, Kelechi Iheanacho and Taiwo Awoniyi, will be charged in leading the Super Eagles’ attack against the Libyans.
