Arsenal can go all the way in Champions League — Thierry Henry

Thierry Henry believes Arsenal’s emphatic 7-1 victory over PSV Eindhoven will give them the confidence to push for Champions League glory. 

Mikel Arteta’s side delivered a historic performance on Tuesday night, recording the biggest-ever margin of victory in a single away leg in the competition’s history. 

Concerns had been raised over Arsenal’s attacking options following injuries to Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, and Bukayo Saka. 

However, the Gunners proved their firepower remains intact, with six different players getting on the scoresheet. 

Jurrien Timber, Ethan Nwaneri, Mikel Merino, Martin Odegaard (twice), Leandro Trossard, and Riccardo Calafiori all found the net in a dominant display that all but secured Arsenal’s place in the quarter-finals. They now await a high-stakes clash against either Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid in the next round. 

Henry believes the result could serve as a turning point for his former club. “A performance like this gives you belief,” he said. “When you score seven goals away from home in the Champions League, you show everyone – and most importantly, yourselves – that you belong at this level.” 

With a tougher challenge looming in the next round, Arsenal will be looking to build on this momentum as they chase their first-ever Champions League title.

“Yes, they can. I do believe that, this is why I called it. I’m just saying now, show us that you can do that against a good team, with people that are coming back,” he said on CBS Sports Golazo (via Daily Mail) when asked if Arsenal could challenge one of the Spanish giants.

“No disrespect to Eindhoven, I really thought it was going to be difficult, especially away from home but they made it look easy. I think they had an outstanding game as you can see with the result.

“But, we all know that the [Premier] League is over. Apart if something crazy happens but what I’m trying to say is that this game can help maybe to be confident in this competition but (also) the game that you have after, Real Madrid or Atletico.

“Sometimes I think the path to the final can at times help or not, but if you want to win the competition you have to go through these teams.”
