This decision follows the recent CAF draw, which paired Egypt with South Africa in the playoff round.
Egypt opted to field the U-20 side due to a scheduling conflict as the senior team’s CHAN qualifiers coincide with preparations for the U20 AFCON in Ivory Coast, set to take place from April 26 to May 18.
With the CHAN final qualifiers scheduled between May 4 and May 11, Egypt faces further challenges in assembling a full-strength senior squad.
The first and second leg fixtures are scheduled to take place between February 28 and March 2 (Johannesburg) and March 7and 9 (Cairo) respectively.
The winner of this tie will secure a spot in the CHAN 2024 tournament, which features locally-based players across Africa.
