Edo Queens Face Mamelodi Sundowns in Group B; AS FAR Joins Group A at CAFWCL

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) conducted the draw for the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League on Friday at the Complex Mohamed VI in Salé, Morocco.

The eight teams participating in this year’s edition of the continental inter-club competition have been divided into two groups of four, with Fatiha Laasiri, former Morocco and ASFAR player and current U23 Morocco Women’s National Team Assistant Coach, serving as the draw assistant.

Nigeria’s representative, Edo Queens, was drawn in Group B, where they will face defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, as well as CBE FC (Ethiopia) and Tutankhamun (Egypt).

The Benin City-based club, making their maiden appearance in the competition, will battle Ethiopia’s CBE in their opening fixture on Saturday, November 10, 2024.

Meanwhile, Group A includes 2022 champions and hosts AS FAR, TP Mazembe of DR Congo—returning to this stage after missing the last edition in Côte d’Ivoire—alongside debutants Aigles De La Medina (Senegal) and South Africa’s University of Western Cape.

Morocco will host the competition from November 9-23, 2024, with the winners set to receive $400,000 and the runners-up walking away with $250,000.

The North African nation’s hosting of the CAF Women’s Champions League follows its successful hosting of the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
