President of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), Samuel Eto’o, has been handed a six-month ban by FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee.
Eto’o has reportedly violated FIFA’s disciplinary regulations, and the ban will prevent the 43-year-old from attending Cameroon national teams’ matches across both the men’s and women’s categories, the football governing body revealed on Monday.
The former Barcelona and Inter Milan forward is said to have violated Articles 13 (“Offensive conduct and violations of fair play principles”) and 14 (“Misconduct by players and officials”) of FIFA’s Disciplinary Code.
The sanction also prevents Eto’o, who has been FECAFOOT’s president since 2021, from attending all age group matches involving Cameroon.
“The ban imposed on Mr Eto’o prevents him from attending mens’ and women’s matches involving FECAFOOT teams of all categories and age groups,” FIFA’s statement read. “Mr Eto’o has been notified today, the date on which the sanction comes into force.”
According to the football body, the former Cameroon international’s sanction is linked to the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup round-of-16 match between Brazil and Cameroon played in Bogota, Colombia, on September 11, 2024.
This is the latest sanction on Eto’o, who was recently had a fine imposed on him by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) about three months ago, as a result of an inquiry into alleged breaches of its ethical and integrity regulations.
