Captain Daniel Bameyi found the back of the net from the penalty spot just three minutes after the hour mark, converting a six-yard kick following a foul on the speedy Divine Oliseh.
The seven-time African champions took control from the outset, but the hosts were fortunate to head into the break still on level terms with their visitors.
Determined to add more shine to their victory, the Flying Eagles, two-time FIFA U-20 World Cup silver medallists, extended their lead with 10 minutes remaining as Oliseh found the target.
Both teams will clash again at the same venue on Friday as they continue preparations for this year’s Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, scheduled to take place from April 26 to May 18.
Tournament hosts Cote d’Ivoire have been placed in Group A of the biennial championship alongside DR Congo, Ghana, Tanzania, and the second representative from Central Africa. Meanwhile, the Flying Eagles will face a tough challenge in Group B, where they will go up against Egypt, South Africa, and Morocco in what promises to be a fiercely contested group.
