The national police of Spain have arrested four people on the account of spreading racist hate towards Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior in the buildup to the La Liga derby with rivals Atletico Madrid on September 29, Afrosport reports.

The derby has a history of being a very high tension match with racist chants being made at Vinicius Junior in the past.

The most recent clash between the two Madrid was suspended for 15 minutes because of objects being thrown into the pitch by the fans at the Metropolitano.

The Spanish police have been trying to apprehend the culprits and have now made head way with the arrest of the four suspects that promoted racist campaign towards Vinicius Junior on social media.

According to BBC Sport, the campaign encouraged supporters to racially abuse the 24-year-old by wearing black face masks in order not be identified.

The suspects were detained on 14 and 15 October and eventually released to allow investigations continue.

The Spanish national police did not reveal the identity to those arrested neither was there any comment from the lawyers representing the suspects.

The police started that the investigation is still open and could lead to more arrests as the online campaign went viral, thereby raising a “significant social alarm”.
