From 12–22 May, Ogun State will host the 22nd National Sports Festival—branded Gateway Games 2024—with over 5,000 athletes across 36 sports expected to compete in Abeokuta, Ijebu Ode, and Sagamu. This edition emphasizes youth development, community engagement, and talent scouting for Nigeria’s next generation of Olympians.
Governor Dapo Abiodun unveiled the official mascot, “Unity Flame,” and theme song on Instagram—citing the festival as “a catalyst for social cohesion and healthy competition.” Preparations include upgrades to the MKO Abiola Stadium and athlete villages at Babcock University.
Beyond the track and field, cultural exhibitions and fan zones will showcase local crafts, cuisine, and performances—making Gateway Games 2024 as much a cultural celebration as a sporting spectacle.
