Ghana international Mohammed Kudus, who captained the Black Stars in their last two matches, has tendered an emotional apology to fans following the team’s disappointing performances in the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers, reports BrainBurst.
The Black Stars find themselves in a precarious situation as they are currently third in Group F in the qualifying rounds with two points after four games.
The Otto Addo-led side picked up just a point in their double-header against Sudan this month: they were held to a goalless draw at the Accra Sports Stadium, before falling 2-0 to the Falcons of Jediane at the Martyrs of Benina Stadium in Libya in the reverse fixture.
This led to Kudus’ plea to the Ghanaian faithful as the West Ham United midfielder took to social media to address the frustrations of their fans in Ghana as well as in the diaspora after the team’s lackluster performances.
The 24-year-old wrote on Instagram: “As someone who captained the team in the two games, it is with great humility and a deep sense of responsibility that I issue this statement. On behalf of the entire team, I would like to extend our sincerest apologies to the people of Ghana for our recent performances against Sudan in Accra and Libya.”
Kudus further assured Ghanaians that the Black Stars are determined to learn from their mistakes against Sudan with the hopes of doing all it takes in subsequent games to ensure they qualify for next year’s AFCON finals in Morocco.
“We want to assure Ghanaians that we are committed to learning from our mistakes, regrouping, and working tirelessly to restore the Black Stars to our former glory. We value the unwavering support and loyalty you’ve shown us, and we’re determined to make you proud once again.”
The Black Stars have two more matches to play in the qualifiers in the upcoming international break in November. They are, however, faced with a herculean task against group leaders Angola before hosting Niger, and their only hopes of qualifying rest largely on them winning both games.
