Lewis Pullman Still Won’t Confirm Sentry Role, But Calls Marvel’s ‘Thunderbolts’ Director A “Genius”

Following his turn in “Top Gun: Maverick,” actor Lewis Pullman, the son of Bill Pullman, seems to be everywhere. From appearances on “Lessons With Chemistry” opposite Brie Larson to “Outer Range” with Josh Brolin, the 31-year-old actor is definitely on the rise. His latest onscreen appearance is the supernatural horror film “Salem’s Lot,” written and directed by Gary Dauberman, which was the opening film at the Beyond Fest earlier this week and is scheduled to be released by Max on October 3, 2024.

Of course, Pullman is also in Marvel’s “Thunderbolts,” an anti-heroes film, and in a recent and forthcoming episode of BrainBurst’s The Discourse podcast, the actor talked a little bit about his superhero film but remained cagey.

In the first trailer for “Thunderbolts,” Pullman is referred to as just “Bob,” seemingly a patient that the scattered members of the team are hired to kill. But the trailer also backs up the rumor that the actor is playing the all-powerful Sentry character, showing the Sentry symbol that the character wears on his belt.

Pullman as Sentry is arguably a poorly kept secret at this point, but when we asked the actor if the famous symbol was confirmation, he answered, “I mean, it’s confirmed that I am Bob. Yeah, I am Bob.”

Pullman also said making the big-budgeted “Thunderbolts” wasn’t dissimilar to making an indie film aside from the budget and he seemed to love the production of it.

“It was a whirlwind experience, but it was a really good experience,” he said. “I learned so much and it was with such a good group of people. So, in some ways it was really, you know, like a very different experience. But in a lot of ways, it just felt like everyone was creatively in it for the right reasons. And so, there was no difference between doing an indie and doing this besides that they had a significant amount more money, maybe.”

Pullman also highly praised director Jake Schreier, who is known for projects like the award-winning “Beef,” “Lodge 49,” and the upcoming “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew” and who he described as the film’s lead star, Florence Pugh.

“But yeah, so I really enjoyed it,” he continued. “And Jake Schreier, I think, is a genius and is doing some really cool stuff with this world and this story. And Florence Pugh leads the ship with flying colors. Yeah, it’s fun out there.”
