Maika Monroe to Star in 20th Century’s Remake of the 1992 Domestic Horror Thriller

Maika Monroe is taking on a new role – literally. The scream queen is set to star in 20th Century’s remake of the 1992 horror thriller “The Hand That Rocks The Cradle”. This marks a departure from her typical “final girl” roles in films like “It Follows”, “Watcher”, and “Longlegs”.

In the original film, Rebecca De Mornay played a woman out for vengeance after her miscarriage and the subsequent suicide of her sex offender husband. Posing as a nanny, she infiltrates the household of one of her husband’s accusers, ready to do anything to get even. We can’t wait to see Monroe flex her acting muscles in this new role.

There’s no word yet on who will join Monroe on the film’s cast, but we can expect director Michelle Garza Cervera to bring in another formidable female performer in the role of Annabella Sciorra. Ted Field will produce through Radar Pictures, with Michael Schaefer and Mike Larocca overseeing the film through Department M. Michael Napoliello and Maria Frisk will also be on board through Radar.

Monroe’s upcoming projects include David Robert Mitchell’s “They Follow” and the thriller “In Cold Light”. With the success of “Longlegs” this summer, we can expect her name to be in high demand in the coming years.

As for Garza Cervera, her remake at 20th Century will be her sophomore directing effort after 2022’s “Huesera” made waves on the festival circuit. Her debut feature won 40 awards worldwide, including several at the Mexican Academy’s Ariel Awards.

20th Century has had success revamping old properties recently with the “Predator” and “Alien” franchises, so maybe “The Hand That Rocks The Cradle” will be a winner?
