According to Variety, the independent distribution company has secured a deal to release “The Life Of Chuck,” which just took home the People’s Choice Award at TIFF earlier this month. There’s no word yet on if TIFF will get Flanagan’s latest in theaters in time for awards season, but it’s likely they’ll wait to release it next summer.
“The Life Of Chuck” is another smart move by NEON, a company that’s consistently proved themselves as a distribution powerhouse over the past five years. They’ve secured the rights to five straight Palme d’Or winners, including the 2024 Cannes winner, Sean Baker’s “Anora,” which hits theaters on October 18.
This savvy move is likely just the beginning of their ambitious 2025 calendar, which includes several festival favorites. “The Life Of Chuck” isn’t the only acquisition from this year, with Baker’s “Anora” serving as their crown jewel, followed by Mohammad Rasoulof’s “The Seed Of The Sacred Fig.”
In the words of Hiddleston himself, it seems he took some extra training for the extended dance sequences in the film, admitting to https://variety.com/2024/film/news/tom-hiddleston-learning-to-dance-the-life-of-chuck-toronto-film-festival-1236135454/: “I found I love dancing jazz and swing. Bossa nova is a technical thing that took my hips a minute to get my head around. Polka is like a 100-meter sprint. It feels like a gallop.”
The stars of the upcoming film also include Mark Hamill, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, and Jacob Tremblay. But, is this the type of film that will make its mark in this coming awards season? Flanagan’s new film got high praise from critics in Toronto, but it seems NEON has its eyes set on making it a 2025 highlight.
