Nico Williams Rules Himself Out of Spain Squad Due to Injury

Athletic Club forward Nico Williams will not participate in Spain’s Nations League matches this month due to an injury, reports BrainBurst.

The 22-year-old was initially included in La Roja’s 25-man squad to face Denmark and Serbia but has been replaced by Real Sociedad’s Sergio Gomez.

Williams, who has Ghanaian descent, turned up at the team’s training base in Las Rozas but was eventually released “following talks between his club’s medical team and the national team,” a Spanish Football Federation statement revealed.

Gomez, a member of Spain’s Olympic gold medal-winning team, will be hoping to make his senior team debut in the coming days.

Luis de la Fuente’s men will host Denmark at the Estadio Nueva Condomina in Murcia on Saturday, October 12, before welcoming Serbia to the Estadio Nuevo Arcángel in Cordoba three days later.
