John Wick May Be Dead, But The Franchise Lives On With “Ballerina”

Lionsgate’s hit action franchise, John Wick, may be dead for now, but the fire lives on with the new spinoff, Ballerina. Today, the studio drops the first teaser for next summer’s blockbuster, starring the talented Ana de Armas. From what we can see, Ballerina promises to be exactly what fans of the franchise expected – stylish fight scenes, striking interior decor, and an intense revenge tale, with a woman at the center this time.

And why not? After all, Ballerina is a John Wick movie, only with de Armas instead of the usual Keanu Reeves. Set between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick 4, de Armas stars as Rooney, a ballerina seeking revenge against the people who murdered her family. And to make it even more intriguing, she’s got familiar faces backing her up, including Ian MacShane’s Winston and the late Lance Reddick’s Charon.

The ensemble cast also includes Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Norman Reedus (in an undisclosed role), Catalina Sodena Moreno, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, and David Castañeda. Len Wiseman directs from a script by Shay Hatten, who’s also worked on John Wick 3 and JW4. And with Chad Stahelski, the champion of the franchise, leading producers alongside Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, we can bet our last dollar that this one’s going to be a hit.

Ballerina hits theaters next summer on June 5. Will Ana de Armas be a worthy successor to Reeves? Take a look at the teaser below and let us know what you think.
