Chijioke Ihunwo, former Caretaker Committee Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area (LGA) and now Action People’s Party (APP) chairmanship candidate, has launched a scathing attack on former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike.
Ihunwo labelled Wike as a “disgrace to the people of Obio/Akpor and the entire Ikwerre nation”, making his disapproval clear. This comes after the alleged attempt to take over the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) Secretariat in Port Harcourt.
Ihunwo accused Wike of being the mastermind behind the plot, and urged his father to intervene and bring his son to order. He also called for the people of Rivers to forgive Wike for his previous attempts to dominate the state politically.
Furthermore, Ihunwo criticized the Inspector General of Police, accusing him of allowing himself to be used by Wike to cause unrest and crisis within Rivers State.
“We are prepared to confront Wike directly,” Ihunwo said. “It would either be Wike who kills us, or we who kill Wike.” This bold statement reflects the escalating tension between the two factions.
Ihunwo also offered some sharp words of advice for Wike, suggesting that the FCT Minister should focus on taking care of himself. He drew parallels to Wike’s past political maneuvers, noting that “the way Wike treated former Rivers governor, Chibuike Amaechi, is now being returned to him”.
Finally, Ihunwo reiterated that the Local Government Election scheduled for this Saturday will go forward, whether Wike likes it or not. His declaration left no room for compromise, signaling a determined resolve to challenge Wike’s influence in the upcoming election.
