Dessers, 30, joined Rangers from Cremonese in 2023 but has struggled to make a significant impact.

Initially handed the starting role by manager Philippe Clement, his inconsistency in front of goal saw him lose his place to Moroccan forward Hamza Igamane.

Interest in the Super Eagles star has come from several European clubs, including Ligue 1’s Saint-Étienne, Serie A duo Cagliari and Empoli, and La Liga’s Leganés.

Most recently, Monza—rooted to the bottom of Serie A—have reportedly joined the race for his signature.

Italian journalist Nicolo Schira stoked speculation on X, formerly Twitter, stating:

“Cyriel Dessers is ready to leave Rangers FC and has been offered to Monza.”

Discussing his future, Dessers has himself acknowledged the uncertainty, saying:

“I don’t know what my situation is now. I can imagine that Rangers might want to earn something from me this month, but January is a difficult window.
“Clubs that are doing well probably also have a striker who is performing well, and few clubs that need goals will immediately have the millions ready.
“We’ll just have to wait and see. I’m at a great club, but I’m 30 years old and want to play every week, preferably at Rangers. If there are different feelings about that internally, then we need to talk.”

Leganés have reportedly approached Rangers but are struggling to meet the €5 million valuation—the same amount Rangers paid Cremonese last summer. While the Spanish side considers a loan deal, Rangers are reportedly holding out for a permanent transfer.

A return to Italy could appeal to Dessers, who previously played in Serie A with Cremonese.

However, both Leganés and Monza are enduring tough campaigns, with Leganés sitting 15th in La Liga, just three points above relegation, and Monza languishing at the foot of Serie A, seven points from safety.
