Terrifier 3, an immediate success in 2022, was made for only $2 million and has earned a surprising $45.9 million at the box office so far. However, it’s a gory poem to nihilism and death, starring a demonic clown (Art the Clown) who dismembers and decapitates his victims.
The plot of Terrifier 3 follows Sienna (Lauren LaVera) and her brother Jonathan (Elliott Fullam) as they flee Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton). Victoria (Samantha Scaffidi) survived the events of the first “Terrifier,” but has become demonically possessed. She becomes Art’s accomplice in Terrifier 3, but as the storyline progresses, characters teleport between locations with little explanation. In an interview with EW, director Damien Leone mentioned the possibility of a director’s cut and its lack of connective material, revealing that it was an artistic choice.
Fans expected more of Art the Clown in “Terrifier 3,” and even more missing scenes. But there are no plans for additional footage, with Leone’s only additional scenes being ones with the human characters, focused on the relationship between Sienna and her niece, Gabbie. Despite its title, an extended cut of Terrifier 3 is unlikely to change much, although Leone noted that there was one very gory scene he’d like to include. So, if there isn’t additional exposition or gore, what might an extended cut of Terrifier 3 include? More light dialogue scenes between Sienna and the rest of the characters, and one specific scene that has been cut: a very sadistic scene between Victoria and Gabbie.
The theatrical cut of Terrifier 3 is 125 minutes long, so perhaps the director decided to keep the film fast-paced and not lose his audience. Despite the title of Terrifier 3’s ‘extended cut’, Leone also confirmed that some scenes cut from ‘Terrifier 3’ will not be included in any potential ‘extended cut’… Because he wants to reuse them for ‘Terrifier 4’.
To sum it up, an ‘extended cut’ of Terrifier 3 isn’t going to mean a bloodier or longer movie with more connective material. The term ‘extended’ simply means Leone wants to use some of the material he cut during post-production. Fans hoping to see more of Art the Clown’s antics may be disappointed, but they’re sure to see more of the notorious character in Terrifier 4.
