Child Stars Who Went on to Have Normal Jobs as Adults

The life of a child actor can be a double-edged sword. They get to play make-believe for hours while making enough money to secure their futures. However, some may struggle with adjusting to an adult career in or outside of the entertainment industry. Here are some notable child actors who pursued conventional careers after leaving Hollywood. (We’ve excluded those who became celebrities in other ways, such as on reality TV or as pop singers.

Chris Hebert – Louis in The Last Starfighter

After “The Last Starfighter” and a few other film and TV appearances, Hebert chose a different path, attending USC Cinematic Arts school followed by Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. He, along with his wife Mary, founded Evergreen Christian School, a homeschool co-op, in 2018. They serve as administrators, with Chris also teaching English and film history.

Ross Malinger as Jonah in Sleepless in Seattle

Malinger’s acting career began at age six and included roles in “Eve of Destruction,” “Kindergarten Cop,” and “Sleepless in Seattle.” Most recently, he works as a finance manager for Keyes Automotive Group in Los Angeles.

Jonathan Gilbert as Willie in Little House on the Prairie

Gilbert played Willie Oleson on “Little House on the Prairie.” He disappeared from the acting scene and later resurfaced at the show’s 50th-anniversary convention. He confirmed that he worked as a stockbroker on Wall Street after leaving Hollywood.
