Nollywood actress Etinosa Idemudia has recently found herself at the center of criticism after she openly criticized a young lady, Athena, for wearing a revealing and skimpy outfit that she deemed inappropriate. The actress took to her Instagram page to repost a side-by-side comparison of Athena and singer Ayra Starr, a photo originally posted on X by an influencer. The comparison was made to highlight Athena’s outfit, which Etinosa found excessive and distasteful.
In her post, Etinosa, who typically refrains from making commentary videos to avoid receiving insults, expressed her surprise and disappointment at Athena’s choice of outfit. She described the look as unacceptable, referring to it in strong terms, stating that the young lady’s outfit, which she referred to as “two slippers on her chest,” was inappropriate. Despite her criticism, Etinosa made sure to clarify that her comments were not meant to shame Athena but were simply her opinion. She emphasized that she was offering her thoughts respectfully while still pointing out the flaws she saw in the outfit.
“I stopped doing commentary videos because I don’t like insults, but some things are too much. This sweetheart’s outfit is a NO….. How can a girl wear this kain thing? See the two slippers on her chest. You no kukuma wear top make you dey waka for street naked. Respectfully, pls. Love and light,” Etinosa said. While her words were intended as a critique, they quickly drew the ire of many social media users who criticized Etinosa’s stance, accusing her of hypocrisy based on her own past controversies.
The backlash primarily stemmed from Etinosa’s past actions, with many pointing to an incident where she allegedly went nude during a livestream with MC Galaxy. One Instagram user, @Ayoola874, responded to Etinosa’s post by writing, “We didn’t forget. The internet never forgets. You went naked on a livestream. Don’t throw stones when you live in a glass house.” Another user, @_Zinny, referenced a prior scandal, stating, “You lost the right to give advice a long time ago when you tore a page in the Bible and smoked it. Give yourself the advice.” These remarks reflect the public’s quickness to recall Etinosa’s past actions when she attempts to offer advice on matters like public appearance and modesty.
In addition, Aaron Leona Adaeze weighed in, suggesting that people often fail to learn from others’ mistakes until they face the consequences themselves, but ultimately, life is a stage for everyone. This sentiment implies that people should be careful with their judgments, as life’s lessons are learned through experience.
