Even though “The Big Bang Theory” and “Young Sheldon” are both still fresh in the minds of viewers, they are now done and dusted. The beloved character Sheldon Cooper, played by Jim Parsons, has come to an end. But has it really?
In a recent interview, Parsons was asked whether he would be open to a “Big Bang Theory” sequel series following his cameo in the “Young Sheldon” series finale. He said, “reincarnation,” then added, “the next lifetime,” all with a laugh. He continued with, “Look, never say never to anything. Life is long, God willing. But I don’t think so.”
Parsons seems adamant about not continuing the role of Sheldon. However, he has starred as the character in more than 400 episodes since 2007. It feels like he’s said goodbye to Sheldon not once, but twice.
In the same interview, he explained how it’s a strange feeling to see the show end for him, but then a couple of months later for the rest of the world. “The Big Bang Theory” and “Young Sheldon” are now in the past, but who knows what could happen in the future?
Could we see an older version of Sheldon in a spin-off? Michael Keaton, an Oscar-winner, has been suggested as an older Sheldon. It would be interesting to see how that would play out.
In the meantime, Parsons is ready to explore other acting opportunities. “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage” might be the next spin-off in the works. Let’s see where life takes Parsons and Sheldon from here.
