Akor Adams delivered his best performance of the season to power Montpellier SC to a thrilling 3-2 victory at home to Auxerre in their Ligue 1 clash on Sunday, BrainBurst reports. Montpellier had failed to win any of their first five league games of the 2024/25 season, but Adams’ heroics turned the club’s fortunes around.

Montpellier had a tough day in the office as they went a goal down against Auxerre, courtesy of Hamed Traorè’s 18th-minute strike. However, Montpellier’s fortunes changed around the 65th minute mark when Akor equalized with a close-range header from a Téji Savanier cross, which nestled into the bottom left corner.

What ensued was a thrilling contest as Modibo Sagnan and Ado Onaiwu traded goals for Montpellier and Auxerre, respectively, leaving the score reading two-all in the 67th minute. But Adams had one last trick up his sleeve. He scored the game-winner in the 75th minute, adding the finishing touch to a lightning-quick counter-attacking move.

Akor’s brace was Montpellier’s first league goal triumph since October 2023, when he netted twice in a 3-0 victory over Toulouse. This has also been his fourth haul in Ligue 1 with Lorient and Le Havre being the other French clubs to have witnessed his brilliance.

With his latest goals, Adams has now bagged three league goals this season, his first goal coming in an 3-1 loss to Nantes in August. Montpellier, following the win, boast four points from five games, and they will next head out to face high-flying AS Monaco.
