Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Newcastle United, Slot said, “It would make his chance only bigger. But in football, it’s always like this: you need the team to win an individual prize, and that’s what Mo understands at the moment really well.”
Slot praised Salah’s exceptional work rate and consistent performances over the past seven to eight months, noting that they have kept him in contention for the Ballon d’Or.
“It’s a good thing that Mo is in the discussion because it means he does well and it means we are doing well,” Slot added.
However, the Dutch tactician also emphasised that winning a major trophy, such as the league or Champions League, is often a crucial factor in determining the Ballon d’Or winner.
“I think in general, someone that wins the Ballon d’Or needs to win something as well, so it is a great challenge in front of us but also in front of him,” Slot said.
With Salah in fine form and Liverpool competing on multiple fronts, Slot is optimistic about the team’s chances of success, which could ultimately boost Salah’s bid for the Ballon d’Or award.
